A little care goes a long way
Product care & FAQs
Small rituals for enjoying your candles and home fragrance, plus answers about ordering from our family studio on Long Island.
Always follow the label and care instructions supplied with your particular product. Instructions can vary by wick, vessel and fragrance format.
Candle care, from the first light
Before you light
Set your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts, children, pets and anything flammable. Trim the wick according to its label; for our White Birch wooden-wick candle, the listing recommends approximately ⅛–¼ inch and gently removing loose charred wood.
While it burns
Never leave a candle unattended. On the first burn, allow the melt pool to reach close to the edges, while following the maximum burn time on the label. Do not burn our candles for more than four hours at a time.
When you finish
Extinguish the candle before leaving the room. Let the wax and vessel cool completely before handling or trimming. Never move a candle while it is lit or the wax is liquid.
Know when to stop
For our container candles, discontinue use when approximately ½ inch of wax remains. The vessel can become hot during use; keep it on a suitable surface and follow its care label.
Getting to know your wooden wick
A wooden wick may occasionally need a second light. If the flame becomes too low, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, gently remove excess char as directed, and relight. Avoid repeatedly lighting a hot candle or digging into liquid wax.
If your candle is not burning as expected, send us a message with the candle name and a photo after it has cooled. We can help you check the care instructions for that particular candle.
Care for every fragrance format
Car diffusers
Follow the activation instructions on your bottle and keep it upright during use. Do not oversaturate the wooden cap. Fragrance oil can damage dashboards, leather, plastic, vinyl, wood and painted surfaces; wipe up spills immediately. Secure the bottle so it cannot swing into surfaces or interfere with driving.
Wax melts
Use only with a suitable wax warmer and follow both the warmer’s instructions and the melt packaging. Keep away from children and pets. Let wax cool before handling or changing it.
Room & linen sprays
Check the individual listing and label for suitable uses and fabric instructions. Keep fragrance products away from eyes, children, pets, heat and open flames. Do not ingest.
Reed diffusers
Follow the instructions supplied with your diffuser. Keep the vessel upright on a stable, protected surface, away from children and pets. Avoid contact between fragrance oil and furniture or finished surfaces.
